Bangkok has been declared a disaster-affected area following days of intense rainfall that have led to extensive flooding across the city. The heavy rains have caused severe traffic disruptions and made movement challenging in the Thai capital, prompting the government to take decisive emergency measures.
This declaration, affecting all 50 districts of Bangkok, enables authorities to expedite drainage operations, set up temporary shelters, and focus on identifying and assisting vulnerable residents, including bedridden patients. The government will also assess damage to both public and private property to facilitate assistance and compensation for those impacted by the flooding.
Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok, has directed relevant agencies to coordinate these emergency efforts to ensure that aid reaches affected residents swiftly. Since Thursday, nearly 300 millimeters of rain has fallen on the city, resulting in significant waterlogging and flooding across numerous roads and neighborhoods.
In response to the situation, authorities are working diligently to mitigate the impact of the floods and restore normalcy to the capital.
