Việt Nam and Singapore are intensifying their efforts to enhance political trust and strategic collaboration, focusing particularly on advancing cooperation in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This comes as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighted that the bilateral relationship has moved beyond traditional economic engagements, increasingly centering on future-oriented sectors that promote long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.
Since elevating their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, the two nations have demonstrated growing political trust and shared strategic interests. Singapore stands as one of Việt Nam’s most critical economic allies and ranks as the second-largest foreign investor in the country. Thousands of projects involving areas like manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology underscore this robust economic relationship.
A noteworthy emblem of this cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is progressively adopting greener and smarter industrial models aligned with sustainable development goals. Both countries are actively enhancing cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. These efforts aim to interlink innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks across both nations.
Economic collaboration is anticipated to be a central theme during Tô Lâm’s visit, with particular attention to strengthening ties in finance, trade, supply chains, and technological advancements. Initiatives like “Tech Connect” are expected to forge stronger connections between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies, particularly in the realms of artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. This visit is also set to bolster the next wave of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Việt Nam.
Further underscoring Việt Nam’s rising international stature, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a prominent regional security forum. Vietnamese officials view this invitation as a testament to the country’s increasing global influence and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
