In Tbilisi on October 12, Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze engaged in discussions aimed at bolstering bilateral relations and exploring new avenues for cooperation. The talks focused on enhancing trade, investment, tourism, education, and infrastructure between Vietnam and Georgia.

The meeting underscored Georgia’s commitment to strengthening ties with Vietnam, with Prime Minister Kobakhidze highlighting the significant growth in economic relations and the complementary strengths of both nations. Notably, bilateral trade has surged sixfold over the past five years, and the number of Vietnamese visitors to Georgia increased by 41% in the first half of 2026. The leaders expressed a mutual interest in improving transport links, including the potential for establishing direct flights.

Vice President Xuân emphasized the importance of stronger diplomatic exchanges, enhanced market access for Vietnamese products, and deeper business collaborations. She pointed out opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, food processing, infrastructure, innovation, tourism, and education. Xuân also advocated for closer cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

The leaders agreed to bolster cooperation in defense and security, coordinate efforts within international organizations like the United Nations, and expand connections between Vietnam, Georgia, and ASEAN member states. This commitment was further reinforced by the signing of cooperation memorandums between their foreign ministries and agricultural and environmental authorities during the visit.

In addition to these agreements, both countries called for progress on accords related to investment protection, avoiding double taxation, and visa exemptions for diplomatic and official passport holders. These steps are seen as vital to fostering a robust framework for future bilateral cooperation.

Looking ahead, both Vietnam and Georgia expressed confidence in the future of their relationship and agreed to prepare activities to mark the 35th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2027. This milestone is anticipated to further solidify the bond between the two nations.
