Vietnam and Laos have reinforced their commitment to a 2026 cooperation agenda, focusing on enhancing partnerships in key areas such as investment, trade, infrastructure, energy, and human resource development. During a mid-year assembly in Da Nang, representatives from both nations evaluated the progress achieved in the first eight months of the year and established objectives for the rest of 2026.

The economic collaboration between the two countries has seen significant growth, with Vietnamese enterprises initiating 20 new investment ventures in Laos, valued at $638.3 million, in the initial seven months of the year. Laos holds its position as Vietnam’s top foreign investment destination, hosting roughly 300 Vietnamese-led projects worth over $7 billion. Bilateral trade has also been robust, reaching about $1.3 billion in the first half of 2026.

Efforts to enhance cooperation extend beyond trade and investment, with both countries actively working to improve energy collaboration, transport, construction, and infrastructure connectivity. In education and human resource development, Vietnam is offering 1,300 scholarships to Lao students in 2026 and has committed $43 million in aid for the year. This financial assistance is part of a broader 2026–2030 program aimed at supporting Laos.

The two nations have also pledged to enhance coordination on significant projects, address investment-related challenges, and reinforce economic connections throughout the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia region. These efforts underscore the strategic importance of their partnership and the mutual benefits derived from their growing economic ties.
