During a significant state visit by Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, Vietnam and Denmark have reached a milestone in their diplomatic relations by upgrading their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This development coincides with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and aims to enhance collaboration in various sectors including trade, investment, technology, defense, security, and sustainable development.

The new partnership builds on the foundation of the Comprehensive Partnership established in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023. Both countries have committed to expanding political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges, with a keen focus on sectors such as renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transport. Additionally, there is an emphasis on encouraging business investment, strengthening supply chains, and improving market access through existing trade agreements.

A key aspect of the partnership involves deepening cooperation on climate action, energy efficiency, and the development of renewable energy projects. This aligns with Vietnam’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Areas such as maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health are also included in the agreement, reflecting a robust commitment to mutual development.

Furthermore, both Vietnam and Denmark have reaffirmed their dedication to international law, multilateral cooperation, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. They have expressed support for regional stability, freedom of navigation, and stronger ties with ASEAN. This strategic partnership not only strengthens bilateral relations but also positions both nations as active contributors to regional and global stability.

To ensure the practical implementation of their commitments, the governments of Vietnam and Denmark will develop action plans. These plans aim to turn the partnership’s objectives into tangible cooperation, reinforcing the long-term relationship between the two countries.
