In a bid to enhance economic ties, Thai Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul recently held discussions with leaders from the EU–ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) and the European Association for Business and Commerce (EABC). The focus of the talks was on boosting trade, investment, and economic collaboration between Thailand and the European Union.
Representatives from over 40 prominent European companies participated in the meeting, representing diverse sectors such as healthcare, finance, automotive, energy, technology, agriculture, tourism, and consumer goods. This diverse delegation underscored the broad interest in fostering stronger business relationships with Thailand.
During the talks, Anutin emphasized the significance of Europe as a vital economic partner for Thailand. He presented the government’s strategic plan aimed at enhancing the nation’s competitiveness. This three-pronged strategy involves advancing digital, AI, and clean energy infrastructure, enhancing transport and logistics networks, and improving the investment landscape through regulatory reforms. Additionally, Thailand’s pursuit of OECD membership was highlighted as part of this broader initiative.
The Thai government is also working to establish the country as a regional powerhouse in semiconductor manufacturing, clean energy, artificial intelligence, digital technology, life sciences, modern agriculture, and food production. These efforts are part of a broader vision to position Thailand as a leading hub in these key industries.
Furthermore, Thailand reiterated its dedication to finalizing negotiations on the Thailand–EU Free Trade Agreement. The completion of this agreement is anticipated to open up greater market access for Thai products and create expanded business opportunities with the European Union, solidifying the partnership between the two regions.
