Vietnam has underscored its pivotal role in strengthening the collaboration between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Russia, following the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit that celebrated 35 years of dialogue. According to Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung, Vietnam played a crucial part in the summit’s success by promoting ASEAN’s central role and endorsing efforts to enhance the bloc’s strategic partnership with Russia.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, focused on key themes of dialogue and cooperation, advocating for the peaceful resolution of disputes and adherence to international law. Vietnam also put forward proposals to expand cooperation in critical sectors such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. As a result of these discussions, new frameworks were adopted to reinforce ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with energy becoming a significant component of the partnership.

In a move that demonstrates Vietnam’s commitment to future regional cooperation, the country announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This initiative reflects Vietnam’s dedication to fostering the next generation of diplomatic relations in the region.

On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to deepening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their discussions centered on expanding collaboration in areas such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport.

Vietnam emphasized that the outcomes of the summit are expected to bolster ASEAN–Russia relations, enhance regional stability, and create new avenues for economic growth and cooperation across Eurasia. The strengthened ties are projected to bring about significant benefits, fostering a more integrated and prosperous regional landscape.
