Following the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit, which celebrated 35 years of dialogue between the two regions, Vietnam has underscored its pivotal role in enhancing cooperation between ASEAN and Russia. This development was highlighted by Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung, who noted Vietnam’s significant contributions to the summit’s success. The summit focused on promoting ASEAN’s central role and bolstering the strategic partnership with Russia.
The Vietnamese delegation, led by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, stressed the importance of dialogue, cooperation, peaceful resolution of disputes, and adherence to international law. They also put forward proposals for expanding collaboration in critical areas such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. The summit resulted in the adoption of new frameworks designed to strengthen ASEAN–Russia ties through 2030, with energy identified as a key pillar in the partnership.
Vietnam’s commitment to fostering future regional cooperation was further evidenced by its announcement to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This move reflects the nation’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of regional leaders and enhancing diplomatic relations.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During their talks, both leaders reiterated their commitment to deepening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The discussions highlighted the potential for expanded cooperation in areas such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transportation.
Vietnam believes that the outcomes of the summit will play a crucial role in strengthening ASEAN–Russia relations, enhancing regional stability, and creating new avenues for economic growth and cooperation across Eurasia. By championing efforts to deepen these strategic ties, Vietnam aims to enhance its role within the regional bloc and contribute to broader regional development.
