At a recent ceremony held to honor Vietnam’s rescue efforts in Venezuela, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng urged the establishment of a highly skilled international search and rescue unit to bolster Vietnam’s participation in global humanitarian and disaster relief efforts. The call comes in the wake of the country’s successful mission in response to devastating twin earthquakes in Venezuela, where a dedicated team showcased commendable professionalism and humanitarian dedication.
The Vietnamese contingent, comprising 124 members from the military and public security sectors, was lauded for its swift and effective response during the mission. Their notable achievements included the recovery of 57 victims, the distribution of 5.6 tonnes of essential relief supplies, and the provision of medical assistance to over 130 local residents. Additionally, the team extended financial aid to the communities severely impacted by the natural disaster.
Prime Minister Hưng emphasized the need to enhance the nation’s rescue capabilities through several key measures. He called for the procurement of modern equipment, specialized training programs, and improved coordination among various agencies. Moreover, he advocated for the strengthening of international partnerships to ensure a more cohesive response to future crises. The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of providing better support and recognition for personnel engaged in overseas humanitarian missions.
The efforts of the Vietnamese rescue team did not go unnoticed, as they were awarded the prestigious Hero of Venezuela Medal, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the relief operations.
