During a visit to Baku on October 14, Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan engaged in talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, aiming to fortify the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Azerbaijan. This diplomatic meeting coincided with Xuan’s attendance at the seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), underscoring both nations’ commitment to enhancing bilateral relations established after the 2025 visit by Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam to Azerbaijan.

The discussions concentrated on expanding cooperation across several key sectors, including oil and gas, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, education, science, and technology. Both sides expressed a strong desire to explore joint energy projects and incentivize businesses from their respective countries to pursue investment opportunities.

To facilitate trade and travel, the leaders considered implementing visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders and establishing direct air routes, which would significantly boost tourism and business exchanges. They also agreed on the importance of strengthening high-level exchanges and improving coordination between government agencies to effectively implement existing bilateral agreements.

In addition to economic collaboration, the dialogues highlighted the potential for cultural and educational exchanges and cooperation in mining and aluminum production, aiming to build stronger people-to-people ties. Vietnam and Azerbaijan also reaffirmed their dedication to deepening coordination at regional and international forums, supporting multilateralism, and upholding the United Nations Charter and international law.
