In a move to bolster regional cooperation, Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ of Vietnam embarked on a visit to the Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. His mission aimed to enhance collaborative efforts between Vietnamese localities and northeastern Cambodia, while also assessing business operations and the welfare of communities with Vietnamese ancestry.
During discussions with provincial leaders, both parties explored avenues for expanded collaboration in sectors such as trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials underscored the strengthening ties with Vietnamese provinces, which have been reinforced through various cooperation agreements, business interactions, and developmental initiatives.
The province of Kratie acknowledged the positive strides made in diplomatic and socio-economic partnerships with Vietnam. These developments include collaborations on infrastructure projects and joint endeavors to locate and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during wartime in Cambodia.
Ambassador Vũ expressed appreciation for the involvement of Vietnamese enterprises engaged in agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia. He noted that these ventures have contributed significantly to local economic growth and have further solidified bilateral relations.
In Stung Treng, provincial authorities highlighted the region’s promising prospects in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging Vietnamese businesses to consider investing in these areas. The ambassador also held discussions with members of the Vietnamese-origin community, focusing on legal and livelihood concerns, while encouraging adherence to local regulations and support for educational and sustainable development initiatives. Vietnam’s investment footprint in Cambodia is substantial, with over 200 projects and a total registered capital of approximately $3 billion, positioning it among the leading foreign investors in the country.
