Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President, To Lam, has emphasized the need for enhanced investment in physical education and sports as key drivers of national strength. In a recent meeting focused on the development of sports, Lam highlighted the dual role of sports as both a cultural activity and a critical component of the country’s human development and workforce strategy.
Lam underscored the significance of school sports programs, advocating for improved facilities, better equipment, and the employment of qualified teachers. He also encouraged the utilization of public sports facilities beyond school hours and suggested the creation of exercise spaces in urban areas, residential communities, and industrial zones to promote public health.
For elite athletes, Lam proposed a comprehensive talent development system that includes early identification, professional training, scientific support, and international competition. He stressed that investment should be directed towards athletes and sports disciplines with the potential for international success.
Highlighting the role of sports science, Lam pointed to the importance of incorporating medicine, nutrition, recovery, psychology, and data-driven training to enhance athletic performance. This scientific approach is seen as vital in supporting athletes to achieve higher levels of success.
Lam also called for the growth of the sports economy, advocating for greater involvement from society and the private sector. He emphasized the necessity of maintaining governmental oversight while strengthening the role of sports organizations in this endeavor.
