At a recent gathering with Hà Nội’s leadership, Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President, Tô Lâm, emphasized the importance of boosting the city’s economic growth while simultaneously focusing on sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. He acknowledged the strides Hà Nội has made in terms of reforms in institutions, improvements in infrastructure, and administrative advancements. However, he pointed out that the city faces several hurdles, such as growth rates that haven’t been as rapid as anticipated, underused resources, and delays in significant urban projects.
Tô Lâm urged city officials to mobilize untapped resources and push forward on critical infrastructure developments. He highlighted the need to bolster support for businesses, tourism, and innovation, along with the enhancement of public services. Specific areas of focus include alleviating traffic congestion, addressing pollution issues, expanding housing options, and investing in sectors such as education, healthcare, and digital transformation.
Hà Nội has set an ambitious goal of achieving an 11% growth rate in its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by 2026. This target follows an impressive 8.22% economic growth rate recorded in the first half of the year, which surpassed the national average. The city’s leadership is being called to maintain this momentum by addressing the challenges that could hinder their progress.
The call to action from Tô Lâm underscores the need for a balance between rapid economic development and sustainable urban planning. With an eye on the future, the push for improved governance and better public services is seen as crucial for maintaining the city’s upward trajectory and ensuring a high quality of life for all its residents.
