In a strategic effort to bolster economic ties, Vietnam’s National Assembly President, Trần Thanh Mẫn, recently engaged with top executives from leading South Korean conglomerates in Seoul. His discussions centered around inviting expanded investments in Vietnam’s burgeoning sectors such as high-tech industries, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, energy, and sustainable development. These meetings underscore Vietnam’s commitment to enhancing its economic cooperation with South Korea, particularly in advanced technology and digital industries.
During his meeting with Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-moon, Mẫn commended Samsung’s significant role in Vietnam through investments that have facilitated job creation, increased state revenue, and supported local businesses. He urged Samsung to expand its high-tech investments, further contributing to Vietnam’s economic growth. Roh reassured that Samsung would continue to align its operations with Vietnam’s development goals, focusing on digital transformation and technological innovation. He highlighted Samsung’s ongoing support for Vietnamese enterprises through initiatives in smart factories, automation, and skills development programs.
Mẫn also held discussions with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, where he advocated for increased investment in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and emission-reduction technologies. Chey introduced SK’s ambitious plans to establish a large-scale AI center in Vietnam and explore opportunities in energy infrastructure and AI data centers. These initiatives reflect SK’s commitment to strengthening its investment footprint in Vietnam.
In a dialogue with LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuk-soo, Mẫn emphasized LG Group’s substantial investment exceeding $10 billion in Vietnam. He encouraged LG to deepen its partnerships with Vietnamese suppliers and enhance technology and skills development. In response, LG acknowledged the strategic importance of Vietnam within its global production network, indicating a robust future for their collaboration.
Additionally, Mẫn met with Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin, urging the corporation to broaden its investments in smart urban development, infrastructure, tourism, and services. He highlighted the importance of accelerating major projects while prioritizing sustainability, green development, and adherence to ESG standards. These discussions highlight Vietnam’s proactive approach in attracting high-quality foreign investment and solidifying its economic partnership with South Korea.
