The 16th National Assembly of Vietnam is set to convene an extraordinary session from August 3 to August 24 in Hanoi. During this session, lawmakers will focus on an extensive legislative agenda and several significant national projects. A total of 33 agenda items will be considered, with plans to pass 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions. Additionally, the assembly will conduct the first readings of seven other bills and engage in discussions on seven critical national issues.
Among the proposed legislation are topics covering diverse sectors such as petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense. These legislative efforts aim to address various aspects of Vietnam’s socio-economic landscape, reflecting the government’s priorities in these pivotal areas.
In addition to legislative activities, the extraordinary session will also serve as a platform for reviewing major infrastructure and development projects. Notable among these are the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5 and modifications to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project. Discussions will also include the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project, the establishment of the cities of Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh, and strategic policy mechanisms related to renewable energy and digital transformation.
The assembly will also focus on preparations for APEC 2027 projects, which are expected to play a crucial role in Vietnam’s international engagements and economic strategies. By addressing such a wide range of legislative and developmental issues, the session underscores Vietnam’s commitment to pursuing comprehensive growth and modernization across multiple sectors.
