In a recent dialogue held in Hanoi, officials from Vietnam and Japan have reinforced their dedication to enhancing collaboration between their respective ruling parties and legislative institutions. The discussions featured Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior member of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, the Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The leaders emphasized their mutual commitment to advancing the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a relationship that continues to thrive.
The talks built on the momentum from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year, with both parties agreeing to intensify political dialogues and exchanges between their parliaments. Nguyễn Duy Ngọc underscored Vietnam’s robust economic achievements alongside its ongoing administrative reforms. He suggested that Vietnam could benefit from Japan’s expertise in local governance and decentralization to further enhance its institutional framework.
Nguyễn Duy Ngọc also highlighted the potential for expanded cooperation in several forward-looking areas. He advocated for joint efforts in human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology. He further proposed strengthening ties between the countries’ parliamentary friendship groups, as well as increasing exchanges involving young lawmakers from both nations.
Addressing the needs of the Vietnamese community in Japan, the Vietnamese delegation sought ongoing support and proposed the simplification of visa procedures. They expressed an aspiration for the eventual establishment of visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens to Japan, aiming to facilitate closer ties between the two nations.
Hagiuda Koichi expressed his support for broadening the scope of bilateral cooperation. He affirmed that Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and its parliament are committed to fostering exchanges and joint initiatives, particularly in the domains of advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. This commitment reflects a shared vision for a future-oriented partnership that leverages the strengths of both countries.
