Vietnam has reiterated its dedication to aiding Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), highlighting the importance of the Five-Point Consensus as the principal framework for achieving peace and stability in the region. During an informal gathering of ASEAN foreign ministers held in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized Myanmar’s significance within ASEAN and the need for continued efforts toward national reconciliation, economic recovery, and enhanced governance.
In his remarks, Lê Hoài Trung called for ASEAN to engage in more practical and tangible measures, such as maintaining regular dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar, to effectively monitor developments and encourage meaningful progress. He underscored Vietnam’s willingness to collaborate closely with the ASEAN Chair for 2026 and other member states to support Myanmar in addressing social challenges, fighting transnational crime, and bolstering regional cooperation.
ASEAN ministers gathered at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a Myanmar-led solution through sustained dialogue and the effective implementation of the Five-Point Consensus. This consensus aims to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development throughout the region, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and collective action.
As ASEAN continues to navigate the complexities of regional dynamics, Vietnam’s stance underscores the importance of solidarity and joint efforts in addressing the challenges faced by member states. By pushing for more proactive engagement and cooperation, Vietnam hopes to contribute to a more peaceful and stable Southeast Asia, with Myanmar playing a crucial role within the ASEAN framework.
