Oil Tankers as Spy Ships? Zelenskyy’s Accusation Adds Twist to War

by admin477351

Kyiv – A surprising new twist has emerged in the Ukraine war, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accusing Russia of converting its oil tankers into spy ships. He alleges the vessels are being used for “reconnaissance and even sabotage activities.”

This claim, if substantiated, would represent a significant escalation in hybrid warfare tactics by Moscow, exploiting global commercial systems for military advantage. Zelenskyy stated that Russia was using the tankers for more than just “to earn money for the war.”

The Ukrainian leader expressed confidence that this new threat could be managed. He revealed that his government is working closely with its allies to counter the alleged operations, stating, “It is entirely possible to stop this.”

The accusation came as Russian President Vladimir Putin was celebrating his army’s recent performance. He claimed that his forces had taken control of nearly 5,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian land in 2025 and that Russia now holds the “complete strategic initiative.”

Putin also took the opportunity to issue a threat regarding advanced weaponry. He warned the United States that supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would trigger a “qualitatively new stage of escalation” due to the implied need for US personnel, a move he said would destroy their bilateral relations.
