In a significant move against intellectual property violations, Thailand is set to destroy over 2 million items involved in counterfeit cases. This initiative marks a substantial increase from previous efforts, with the number of destroyed items rising by 36.45% from the 1.52 million items dealt with in 2025. The estimated value of these goods has also surged, reaching THB2.14 billion, compared to THB900.91 million in the previous year.
The array of counterfeit goods slated for destruction spans various categories, including clothing, watches, bags, electronic devices, vehicle parts, medicines, cosmetics, food, and beverages, among other consumer products. These items have been seized through rigorous enforcement operations targeting both online and offline markets, underscoring the Thai authorities’ commitment to clamping down on counterfeit activities.
To ensure the safe disposal of these goods, the destruction process is taking place in facilities equipped with environmental management systems located in Samut Prakan and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This careful handling is designed to prevent any adverse effects on local communities and the environment.
Despite these efforts, Thailand continues to be listed on the Watch List under the 2026 Special 301 Report concerning intellectual property protection and enforcement. In response, Thai authorities are working on an intellectual property work plan in collaboration with the United States. This plan aims to bolster enforcement measures, minimize counterfeit sales, safeguard consumers, and foster a more transparent business atmosphere.
